Vigo di Fassa
Vigo di Fassa is the sunniest town in the valley. Situated at the foot of the Catinaccio, in a dominant position, it was for centuries the seat of the legal, administrative and religious authority of the valley. Vigo di Fassa is directly connected to Bolzano, which is only 35 km away, via the Costalunga Pass (also known as the Carezza Pass or Karerpass). From a tourist point of view, Vigo di Fassa offers a wide choice of hotels and apartments. From the town centre, a cable car takes you in just a few minutes directly to Ciampedie, a true garden and balcony overlooking the Dolomites with a panorama that is unique in the world. Here, the opportunities for fun and relaxation are linked to the season: in winter, the facilities of the Catinaccio Ski Area and in summer, countless excursion possibilities through the Catinaccio group (of note are the Vael, the Torri del Vajolet and the Antermoia). Returning to the village, it is worth mentioning the two ancient, splendid Gothic churches: Santa Giuliana, patron saint of the valley (early 1500s) and the Pieve di San Giovanni (second half of the 1400s) in the hamlet of the same name, an ancient and current parish church, as well as the greatest religious and artistic expression of the valley.
